Kicking Into Gear: How Taekwon-Do, Hypnotherapy & Mounjaro Helped Me Take My Life Back

Back in September, I made the decision to take control of my health. After years of struggling with my weight, joint pain, and a sense of frustration, I knew I had to make a change—not just for my appearance, but for my ability to live and enjoy the things I love.
Like Taekwon-Do—and horse riding.
Why I’m Sharing This
The reason I’m writing this blog is simple: I don’t want to hide the fact that I’ve been taking medication. There’s absolutely nothing to be ashamed of, and I believe people should feel empowered to do whatever is best for their own health, whether that’s therapy, training, lifestyle changes—or medication.
We all get to share our stories in our own time. This is mine, and I’m finally ready to share it.
Mindset First: Hypnotherapy Gave Me My Start
I began my journey with hypnotherapy, and it was the first real shift that worked. It helped me build healthier habits and break old patterns with food. For the first time in a long time, I felt in control. The weight started to come off—but like so many journeys, after a few months, things slowed down.
That’s when I spoke to my GP and was introduced to Mounjaro.
Mounjaro: A Tool, Not a Shortcut
I started on the lowest dose, and although there were tough moments—nausea and indigestion especially—it helped kickstart progress again. It reduced my appetite, helped me feel fuller, and supported the work I was already doing: consciously eating better and staying active.
Since then, I’ve lost over 5 stone.
But what’s changed isn’t just the number on the scale—it’s how I feel, how I move, and how much more I can enjoy the things I love.
Getting Back to TKD—and the Saddle
Taekwon-Do has been a huge part of this journey. As the weight came off, I noticed I could move more freely. The joint pain started to ease, and my balance, coordination, and core strength improved—big time.
I’m getting back on the floor more with my students, demonstrating more, joining in fully, and just enjoying Taekwon-Do again. That alone has been worth every step.
Another unexpected bonus? My horse riding has improved too. The better balance and core control I’ve gained through TKD and the weight loss has made a big difference in the saddle. I feel more stable, more connected, and more confident than I have in years.
Looking Ahead
My goal is to grade in 2026, and for a long time, I wasn’t sure that was even realistic. My health had been holding me back. But now? I finally feel like I'm moving in the right direction—literally and figuratively.
I'm not claiming to be stronger than ever—but I am healthier, more capable, and far more connected to the things that bring me joy.
Final Thoughts: Progress, Not Perfection
There’s plenty of detailed research out there about Mounjaro—how it works, the clinical trials, the science behind it—so I won’t repeat what’s already easy to find online. But if anyone is curious about what it’s like to actually be on it, and how it’s felt in real life, I’m always happy to chat.
Feel free to drop me a message or give me a call. I'm more than happy to talk you through my journey—openly, honestly, and from experience.
Because if sharing my story helps even one person feel hopeful or less alone on their own path, then it’s been more than worth it.
Taekwon.
